Top Tips for Your Sunflower Photoshoot!

Whether you're joining us for a magical moment in the sunflower fields on foot or in the saddle, here’s everything you need to know to help your shoot run smoothly and look stunning.

What to Wear
* Dresses always look beautiful in the flowers, especially those with flowy fabrics that catch the breeze and add movement to your images.
* Not a dress person? Smart country wear (tweed, shirts, tailored trousers, or skirts) is a great alternative and photographs well.
* Recommended colours: white, cream, soft blues, pastels, burnt orange, rust, terracotta. These all complement the natural tones of the sunflowers and create soft, dreamy imagery.
* Colours to avoid: bright yellow (you’ll blend into the flowers!), green, neons, dark brown, and black. These can clash or photograph harshly in bright light.
* Patterns: Ditsy florals can look lovely, but depending on your styling, they may distract from the overall look.
* Textures: Lace enhances the delicate feel and fits beautifully with the setting.
* If you want ridden photos, make sure your outfit allows you to sit comfortably and safely in the saddle. Long, flowy dresses work best here.
* Makeup: Keep it soft and natural, heavy makeup can take away from the ethereal, countryside look we’re aiming for.

Preparing Your Horse
* Arrive with your horse clean and well-groomed. A hot oil treatment before the shoot can bring out a gorgeous shine in the coat.
* Use a clean leather bridle or a neat leather headcollar, it is timeless and elegant.
* Avoid brightly coloured or neon headcollars, which can distract from the overall aesthetic.
* Flower garlands can be a sweet touch, but not essential. We recommend doing a few shots with and without.
* Don’t forget the finishing touches: wipe clean any crusty nostrils or eye gunk, and a dab of Vaseline can help keep them looking fresh.
If You’re Having Ridden Photos
* Make sure all tack is clean and tidy, just as you would for a show.
* Use a saddle pad in a soft, neutral, or complementary tone, avoid any of the bright or clashing colours listed above. It’s a bonus if it matches your outfit.
* Always ensure you can sit comfortably and safely in your chosen outfit. If needed, you’re welcome to bring a second outfit to change into.
* Long dresses can work beautifully, especially in bareback shots, but be sure to practise at home first to check your horse is happy with fabric around them.
* If you're planning bareback photos, this is entirely your choice. I’ll happily photograph it, but please note I cannot be held responsible for any injuries.
* Likewise, choosing not to wear a riding hat is your personal decision – I’ll support your choice, but again, I do not accept any liability.
* Safety always comes first. I reserve the right to refuse ridden photos if I believe it is unsafe for you, your horse, myself, or anyone else present.

Take your time, enjoy the moment, and let your bond with your horse shine through. The best photos often come when you’re relaxed and just enjoying each other’s company.
