BridleNav Privacy Policy

Last updated: 1 August 2026

BridleNav is a voice-guided navigation app for horse riders, made in Derbyshire.

We have built BridleNav to collect as little about you as possible. You do not need an account to look around the app; you create one only if you take out a subscription, and even then we ask for very little. We do not run a server that stores your rides. Almost everything the app knows about you stays on your phone and never reaches us.

Who we are

BridleNav is operated by D & C Lowe & Sons Ltd, trading as Unthank Equestrian, which is the data controller for the purposes of UK data protection law.

Registered office: Unthank Hall Farm, Holmesfield, S18 7WF
Company number: 11930094
Email: charlotte@unthank-farm.co.uk

What stays on your phone

The following are saved on your device only. They are not sent to us or to anyone else, and we cannot see them:

- Your emergency contact's name and phone number, if you choose to add one
- Your chosen navigation voice
- Whether you have seen the introduction screen
- Whether you have used your free ride

If you delete the app, this information goes with it. You can clear it at any time in Settings.

Your location

BridleNav needs your location to work. It is the whole point of the app: knowing where you are on a route is how it tells you where to turn.

Your location is used live, on your phone, to work out your position on a route and what to say next. We do not record, store or upload your rides. When a ride ends, your track is gone. We do not track you when you are not riding.

Why we ask for "Always" location: riders put their phone in a pocket or a saddle bag, and the screen locks. If location is only allowed while the app is open, the voice stops when the screen locks, which makes the app useless on a real ride and could leave you without directions in open country. "Always" permission lets BridleNav keep guiding you with your phone away. You can decline, and the app will still work with the screen on.

Lawful basis: performance of our contract with you. You can withdraw the permission at any time in your phone's settings.

The SOS feature

If you use SOS, BridleNav sends a text message from your phone to the emergency contact you chose. That message contains your current location as coordinates and a map link.

The message is sent by your phone, over your own mobile network, directly to your contact. It does not pass through us and we never receive a copy.

Lawful basis: your explicit instruction at the moment you use it, and our legitimate interest in rider safety.

BridleNav's SOS is not an emergency service and is not monitored by anyone. In a real emergency, call 999.

Subscriptions and payment

If you subscribe, your payment is taken by Apple or Google, not by us. They hold your name, billing address and card details. We never see them.

We use RevenueCat to tell us whether a subscription is active. RevenueCat receives an anonymous identifier for your device or store account, and your purchase history. It does not receive your name, email or location.

Lawful basis: performance of our contract with you, and our legal obligation to keep accurate records of sales.

Your account

You can use BridleNav and browse routes without an account. You only need an account to take out a subscription, so that your subscription stays with you if you change phones.

To create an account you sign in with your email address: we email you a six-digit code, and entering it signs you in. We store your email address, a display name if you choose to add one, and whether you have asked us to email you about new routes. This is kept securely with our hosting provider, Supabase, on servers in the UK and Europe. The sign-in codes are sent through our email provider, Resend, in Ireland.

We use your email address to sign you in and to look after your account. We will only send you other emails, such as letting you know when new routes are added, if you tick the optional box asking us to, and you can stop those at any time.

You can delete your account at any time from inside the app, under Settings. This permanently removes your account and the details above from our systems. If you have a subscription, it is managed by Apple or Google, so you may also need to cancel it with them.

Lawful basis: performance of our contract with you where the account supports your subscription, and your consent for any marketing emails.

How long we keep things

- On your phone: until you delete it, or delete the app
- Your account (your email and any display name): until you delete your account
- Ride tracks and locations: not kept at all, they exist only for the duration of your ride
- Subscription records: for as long as your subscription is active, and afterwards for six years, which is how long UK tax law requires us to keep business records
- Emails you send us: for as long as needed to deal with your query, and up to two years afterwards

Other companies involved

Each of the following has its own privacy policy, and we would encourage you to read theirs if you want the detail.

Mapbox supplies the map. To draw the map on your screen, Mapbox receives requests for the areas you are looking at.

what3words: where the app shows a what3words address, tapping it opens the what3words app or website. We send them nothing about you; you simply leave our app and arrive at theirs.

Apple and Google handle payment and app distribution.

RevenueCat manages subscription status, as described above.

Expo, the framework BridleNav is built with, may collect basic technical information such as crash reports to help us find faults.

Information leaving the UK

Some of these companies are based in the United States, so limited information, chiefly map requests and anonymous subscription identifiers, is processed outside the UK. Where that happens, transfers are covered by the safeguards recognised under UK data protection law, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or an adequacy decision.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to ask what we hold about you and get a copy, have it corrected if it is wrong, have it erased in most circumstances, restrict or object to how we use it, take it elsewhere in a portable format, and withdraw consent where we relied on consent.

In practice, because we hold so little, most of what concerns you is on your own phone and under your control. To exercise any of these rights, email charlotte@unthank-farm.co.uk. We will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, or 0303 123 1113.

Children

BridleNav is intended for adult riders and is not designed for or directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information about children.

Changes to this policy

If we change how BridleNav handles your information, for example if we add ride history, we will update this policy, change the date at the top, and flag significant changes in the app.
