The Roman Lakes Ride is set in New Mills — a beautiful historic mill town nestled in the Goyt Valley in the heart of the High Peak, Derbyshire. Sitting right on the edge of the Peak District National Park and just 20 minutes from Sheffield and Stockport, New Mills is one of those hidden gems that most people drive past without ever realising what's there — and on horseback it is absolutely spectacular.

This is Katy's more adventurous offering — a faster-paced, varied ride through some of the most dramatic scenery the Peak District has to offer.

Ride the ridge for sweeping panoramic views across the valley, then drop down into the gorge where lakes, waterfalls and streams wind through the landscape beneath you. The rubber tracks offer the perfect footing for canter — and there are plenty of opportunities to open up and really go for it.

No main road work. Just bridleways, big views and brilliant riding.

Rider requirements:
This ride is best suited to confident, capable riders aged 16 and over whose horses are fit and happy in all three gaits over varied terrain for up to 2.5–3 hours.

New Mills Golf Club have been incredibly kind in allowing us to use their car park, and we'd love for riders to show their appreciation by popping into the clubhouse for a drink and perhaps a spot of lunch after the ride. It's a lovely way to round off a brilliant morning in the saddle and support a business that has been so welcoming to us! ☕🍽️

👥 Maximum 3 riders — we are actively working to secure additional parking which would allow us to increase to our usual group size of up to 6 riders. Watch this space! 🌿

From October 2026 we will be parking on a working farm near New Mills — please be respectful of the farm and the farmer at all times 🌿
